Rules of Thumb
  1. The rate of reaction in every instance must be established in the laboratory.
  2. Catalyst particles are 0.1 mm dia in fluidised beds, 1 mm in slurry beds and 2-5 mm in fixed beds.
  3. The optimum proportions of stirred tank reactors are liquid level equal to tank diameter; at high pressures, slimmer proportions are more economical.
